Exciting news—Bull Oak has officially moved to a new office location in San Diego (Rancho Santa Fe)! This move represents a significant turning point in our growth, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you to our new space.
Why the Move?
Our new space in Rancho Santa Fe represents our third office location since I started the firm in 2014.
- 2014 – 2019: Downtown San Diego
- 2019 – 2024: La Jolla UTC
- 2024+: Rancho Santa Fe
Our new location offers more space and is easier to get to – it is designed with you in mind. Whether you’re visiting us for the first time or you’ve been with us for years, our goal is to make every in-person meeting more comfortable, efficient, and enjoyable.
We decided to move locations for a few reasons. The biggest reason? We noticed a substantial shift in client behavior post-COVID. The number of in-person meetings has declined—not to zero, but a sizable drop. If there was one positive thing that came out of the COVID era, it was the widespread adoption of video conferencing.
However, not all of our meetings have gone virtual. We realized that while our clients sometimes prefer to meet virtually, they still want the option to meet in the office if the need ever arises. This is an important distinction. Many financial planning firms (and other companies in other industries) have opted to go 100% virtual in a post-COVID world, only to realize that some of their clients still wanted the option to meet with them in person. We wanted to maintain a physical presence.
We have many clients outside of the San Diego region, and it is not uncommon for them to stop by our office when they are in the area – East Coast clients in town for a conference, mid-west clients visiting family, etc. Sometimes, this meeting is to update their financial plan, but not always. Sometimes it is nice to simply stop by, say hello, and have a world-famous Bull Oak cup of joe (we take our coffee pretty seriously).
However, the biggest reason our clients prefer to meet in person is to go through our Mind-Mapping Process. Even though these clients may choose to meet over Zoom going forward, they prefer to meet in person for this meeting.
As many of you know (or not), our Mind-Mapping Process is a 2-3-hour planning meeting that all our clients go through when they first sign up. It involves a very large whiteboard where we discuss your goals, assets, cash flows, taxes, etc. This session allows us to really understand you and what is driving your financial decisions. This is your “why” session. It’s a pretty intensive process that is just better face-to-face. We can do it over Zoom (and we do so often), but creating your mindmap on a whiteboard in person is just better.
So, we need the space for all of this. We need a conference room that accommodates everyone comfortably, and space for our advisors to meet with our clients via Zoom when they choose to meet virtually. Not to mention, we need extra space as we continue to grow.
